receptionist, secretarial skills, small business management, small engine repair, snack bar operation, typing, and word processing.

The following on-the-job training programs are conducted at actual work sites in the community or at the Roosevelt Institute: baker or baker’s assistant, body and fender repairperson, cafeteria attendant, cook or cook’s assistant, custodian, day nursery aide, greenskeeper, groundskeeper, kitchen assistant, nurse’s assistant, orthotics-prosthetics assistant, physical therapy aide, sales clerk, service station attendant, starter-generator-alternator repairperson, stock clerk, switchboard operator, ward clerk, welder, wheelchair repairperson.

In addition, basic academic education for remedial or GED preparation, job readiness training, driver education, and hospital/homebound services supplement the training programs to enhance student progress.

Independent Living Skills Training, a six-week residential training experience, provides severely physically disabled persons with independent skills to function in the community.

Entrance Requirements: Patients must be referred for inpatient or outpatient services by a physician, Division of Rehabilitation Services counselors, or social workers. Other agencies or individuals may initiate the referral by calling the Admissions Department at 706-655-3321.

Cost: The facility is approved for third-party payments including private medical/hospital insurance, Workers’ Compensation, Rehabilitation Services, Medicare, and Medicaid. Questions concerning financial arrangements should be directed to Consumer Accounts Office at 706-655-3321.

Training Offered: Provides basic computer skills, computer application and training using Windows 95 or Microsoft Word and Excel. Also offers classes to improve pronunciation of English as well as English as a second language. Computer training in Spanish and English. Small fees charged. All personnel are volunteers.

Hours of instruction are 9 to 11 am. Call regarding other hours.
