Training
Offered: Thirty-five
diploma programs from one to two years in length. Areas of study include
accounting, administrative assistant, commercial art, computer programming,
information processing specialist, insurance and risk management, marketing
management, printing/graphics technology, real estate appraisal, secretary,
barbering, child development and related care, cosmetology, culinary arts,
dental assisting, dental laboratory technology, medical laboratory technology,
medical office assisting, practical nursing, air conditioning technology,
appliance servicing, cabinet making, carpentry, machine tool technology,
masonry, residential/commercial wiring, welding and joining technology,
architectural drafting, auto collision repair, automotive technology, aviation
maintenance technology, aviation/avionics electronics, electronics technology,
mechanical drafting, truck repair technician.
Entrance
Requirements: Requirements
vary and may include high school diploma or GED, certain reading and math
achievement levels on validated test, 16 years of age or older, physical exam.
Students may be admitted to program on a provisional basis while taking
necessary development courses in areas of need.
Training
is also provided in various skill areas. Certificates are awarded for course
completion. Length of study varies. No entrance requirements. * Day and evening classes.
Continuing education courses include catering, commercial floral design,
drapery and clothing construction, typing, word processing, accounting, tax
return preparation, real estate sales and appraisal, cake decorating,
reupholstery, drawing, painting, drama, picture framing, transportation and
traffic management.
*Note:
Some home economics classes do not allow the student to be enrolled in another
public school at the same time these particular courses are taken at Atlanta
Tech. Check catalog for details.
High School Senior Admission Plan: May be jointly enrolled in high school and Atlanta Tech
during senior year if all academic high school requirements have been met.
Cost:
Approximately $168 per term plus books and supplies. PEL grants are
available for financial assistance.
Special
Services Available: An academic support services coordinator, Ms. Harriett Ferrell,
oversees individual adjustments, counseling, and other adaptations as necessary
for disabled students. Special support services for the hearing impaired (sign
language, interpreters, individual testing, note taking, and tutorial
assistance) are also available. Tutorial assistance and developmental studies
classes are available for those students in need. Hearing impaired, learning
disabled, and emotionally disabled students have been served in the past.
